1 bottle of Kirkland minoxidil lotion lasts approximately 30 days. A bottle contains 60 ml and the dosage on the label is 1 ml, 2 times a day, so 2 ml per day.[1] The same applies to a 60 gram can of Kirkland foam: with 1 gram of foam 2 times a day you will be used up after about a month.[2][3] If you use foam once a day, like the dosage for women, it will last you about 2 months. mee.[3] Is your bottle empty much sooner? Then you probably use more than necessary, and that does not produce a better result according to the label.[1] In this blog you can read how to calculate it yourself, why a bottle sometimes runs out faster and what Kirkland minoxidil costs per month.

How long does a bottle of Kirkland last? minoxidil?
Kirkland minoxidil 5% is available as a lotion (a liquid with a dropper) and as a foam. Both packages are designed so that 1 bottle or can lasts approximately 1 month at the standard dosage. The American packaging of the foam also literally states that 6 cans of 60 grams are a 6-month supply.[2]
| Product | Content | Dosage | It takes approximately |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kirkland lotion 5% (men) | 60 ml | 1 ml, 2 times per day | 30 days |
| Kirkland foam 5% (men) | 60 grams | 1 gram (half cap), 2 times per day day | 30 days |
| Kirkland foam 5% (women) | 60 grams | 1 gram (half cap), once a day | 60 days |
The foam for women lasts twice as long, simply because the official dosage for women is 1 time at 5% foam per day instead of 2 times.[3] That's why we sell that can as "1 bottle, 2 months".

60 ml per bottle with dropper, enough for about 30 days at 1 ml 2 times per day.
How do you calculate how long your bottle will last?
The calculation is simple: content divided by what you use per day.
- Lotion: 60 ml divided by 2 ml per day is 30 days. If you use the pipette up to the 1 ml mark, this sum is correct.[1]
- Foam, 2 times a day: 60 grams divided by 2 grams per day is 30 days. Half a cap of foam corresponds approximately to 1 gram.[3]
- Foam, once a day: 60 grams divided by 1 gram per day is 60 days.
Important: the dosage is always 1 ml (or 1 gram) at a time, regardless of how large the area of hair loss is. The official product information for minoxidil 5% states a maximum of 2 ml per day.[4] A larger bald area does not mean that you can use more. Are you unsure about how to properly distribute the lotion or foam? Then read our explanation about applying minoxidil in 6 steps.
Why is my bottle empty before 30 days?
This is one of the most frequently asked questions we receive. Usually it is one of four things:
- More than 1 ml at a time. A full pipette to the brim often contains more than 1 ml. Fill to the mark.
- Extra times per day. A third time "just to be sure" will empty the bottle faster. According to the label, using more or more often does not give better results.[1]
- Scalp and beard from 1 bottle. If you also use the same bottle for your beard, you will quickly use double the amount. Then count on about 2 bottles per month. You can read more about the beard in minoxidil for your beard.
- Spills and drips. Lotion that runs off the pipette or your scalp is lost. Apply it to a dry scalp and let it absorb.

The other way around also applies: if you use a bottle for much longer than a month, you will probably skip doses or use less than 1 ml. Minoxidil only works as long as you use it regularly, and results can take 2 to 4 months.[1]

A loose pipette helps you to neatly dose up to 1 ml each time.
How much does Kirkland minoxidil cost? per month?
Because 1 bottle lasts approximately 1 month, the price per month is easy to calculate. The larger the package, the lower the price per month. These are our prices from November 2026:
| Package | Lotion men | Foam men | Foam women |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 bottle | €29.99 (1 month) | €34.99 (1 month) | €39.99 (2 months, €20.00 per month) |
| 3 bottles | €74.99 (€25.00 per month) | €84.99 (€28.33 per month) | €99.99 (6 months, €16.67 per month) |
| 6 bottles | €109.99 (€18.33 per month) | €134.99 (€22.50 per month) | temporarily out of stock |
| 12 bottles | €189.99 (€15.83 per month) | €259.99 (€21.67 per month) | not available |
Lotion is cheaper per month than foam. You can read which form suits you, for example if you have a sensitive scalp, in minoxidil foam or lotion. A large package is only beneficial if you really plan to continue for months: the package insert for minoxidil 5% recommends stopping if you do not see any improvement after a year,[4] and the Kirkland label mentions 4 months as the time to consult a doctor if there is no hair growth.[1]

Can of 60 grams: half a cap twice a day, good for about 30 days.
How long does an opened bottle last?
At Kirkland, the expiry date is stated on the bottle or can; do not use the product after that date. How long minoxidil lasts after opening varies per product and form. For comparison: the official product information of a Dutch minoxidil solution states 50 days after opening,[5] and in the case of a Dutch minoxidil foam, 12 months after opening.[3] Practical advice: do not open all the bottles at the same time, store them tightly closed at room temperature and keep the lotion away from fire, because it is flammable.[1] Because you open a new bottle every month with normal use, shelf life after opening is rarely a problem in practice.
What should you pay attention to? when used?
Minoxidil is not without risks. Do not use it under the age of 18, not during pregnancy or breastfeeding and first consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have a heart condition or problems with your blood pressure. Stop and contact a doctor if you experience chest pain, palpitations, dizziness, fainting, sudden weight gain or swollen hands or feet.[1][4] Sudden or patchy hair loss should first be checked by your doctor. Always read the package leaflet.

With half a cap once a day, 1 can lasts approximately 60 days.
